Alcuni mesi fa ho deciso di studiare approfonditamente un Framework MVC. Ne ho scelto uno, lo ho smontato completamente e lo ho rimontato a modo mio. Doveva essere un esercizio ma poi è nato X4 WebApp.E' la solita storia: inizio con tanti buoni propositi e una volta dentro mi faccio prendere la mano. E' andata così anche questa volta.
Per iniziare ho scelto il Framework Kohana di cui vi ho già parlato. E' un progetto molto interessante e ho pensato di studiarlo a fondo. Ho scaricato l'ultima versione e ho iniziato a ripercorrere la strada dalla chiamata di una pagina.
Il Benchmarking, il Routing, la creazione di una istanza, la chiamata del controller, l'autoload dei modelli e delle viste. Insomma me lo sono sciroppato per circa due giorni nell'ottica di utilizzare Kohana nello sviluppo della nuova versione di X3 CMS. Ho apprezzato alcune soluzioni mentre altre lo ho trovate meno interessanti.
Quindi ho iniziato a rimontarlo escludendo quello che non mi serviva o che ho reputato appesantire troppo il codice (come la gestione del benchmarking e degli eventi) e modificando altre cose per adattarle alle mie esigenze/abitudini (come il routing).
In capo a due giorni ho scritto il mio Hello World! In ogni caso mi serviva un test per scoprire i limiti della mia impostazione e ho pensato di scrivere una piccola applicazione di cui però vi parlerò un'altra volta. Ecco come ho passato le vacanze di natale!
In conclusione, la versione semplificata funziona egregiamente, dopo averci smanettato per due settimane ho iniziato ad affezionarmi e ho deciso di dare un nome alla mia creatura. La ho battezzata X4 WebApp.
Ad oggi ho già imbastito tre applicazioni mediamente complesse e l'engine migliora. Ovviamente non può competere con i Framework sul mercato ricchi di estensioni e sviluppati da comunità numerose ma lo conosco come le mie tasche e mi permette di fare tutto ciò che mi serve. Almeno per ora.
Mi sono posto anche un problema etico: è giusto considerare X4 WebApp come una mia creatura? Ma non è proprio questo lo spirito dell'Open Source. Appena il codice avrà raggiunto una maturità sufficiente (eccessivo pudore?) sarò felice di renderlo aperto per partecipare attivamente a questo gioco meraviglioso.
